Hybrid/Online Program
Is Online Right for You?
Many South Medford students have individual needs or circumstances that make attending school full-time in a traditional classroom setting difficult. The SMHS Online & Hybrid Program offers a flexible learning option while holding students to the same high academic standards as our in-person programs. Students in this pathway have access to a wide variety of college-prep and elective courses that meet Oregon graduation requirements and can be tailored to each student’s academic goals.
A key benefit of the Online & Hybrid Program at South Medford High School is that students continue to have in-person access to credentialed teachers for extra support, tutoring, and guidance in their coursework. Every student is also assigned an academic counselor who assists with course planning, career exploration, and post-secondary preparation. Coursework may be completed fully online or blended with on-campus classes, allowing students to design a schedule that works best for them.
Through our partnership with Edgenuity, students can choose from a wide range of college-prep courses that meet graduation requirements. Students may also combine online coursework with in-person electives, career technical education (CTE) classes, and other specialized opportunities offered on campus at South Medford.
Online & Hybrid Program students enjoy the same privileges and opportunities as traditional students. They may:
- Participate in athletics and extracurricular activities
- Join over 20 student clubs and organizations at South Medford
- Attend school events and activities
- Earn a South Medford High School diploma and walk at graduation with their peers
Parents and students should understand that online learning is not an easier path but a flexible one. Online courses are rigorous, college-preparatory, and designed to challenge students academically. Students and families considering the Online & Hybrid Pathway should reflect on the following questions:
- Do you have reliable access to the internet for coursework?
- Are you comfortable with digital communication and online learning platforms?
- Can you dedicate 4–5 hours per week per class to succeed in your courses?
- Do you manage your time effectively and complete assignments on schedule?
- Are you self-motivated, goal-oriented, and able to work independently?
- Are you willing to reach out to teachers when questions or challenges arise?
- Do you have a quiet space at home for study and homework?
The South Medford Online & Hybrid Pathway provides flexibility without sacrificing quality, ensuring all Panthers have the opportunity to reach their goals while remaining part of our vibrant school community.
