Tips to Help Your Student Succeed
Focus on three key areas: Time, Expectations, and Encouragement.
Time
- If your student is working on Edgenuity courses from home, ensure they schedule enough time daily to complete assignments at a manageable pace.
- If your student is working on-site at school, encourage them to review printed eNotes before taking assessments to reinforce learning.
Set High Expectations
- Encourage your student to actively use the Assignment Calendar to track daily coursework.
- Setting and achieving daily goals helps students stay motivated and on track.
Ask for Feedback and Provide Encouragement
- Check in with your student daily by asking:
- What did you learn today?
- What did you accomplish today?
- What did you find challenging today?
- How did you overcome those challenges?
- How can I help you achieve success?
- What did you learn today?
Online Course Attendance Expectations
- Online courses are NOT free periods. Attendance is tracked based on work completed rather than seat time.
- Students are marked present only if they are on pace and up-to-date with all coursework as listed in their Edgenuity Course Report.
- Students who are behind pace will be marked absent, and attendance consequences apply just like a traditional class.
- Students who fall behind may be required to physically attend class until they catch up with assignment due dates.
Our partnership with Edgenuity is a key part of the instructional program at South Medford High School. Edgenuity provides high-quality, standards-aligned high school coursework that we use in several ways:
- Full Online Courses: Students in the Hybrid & Online Program use Edgenuity for their fully online courses. Students can log in to Edgenuity through HelloID.
- Credit Recovery: Edgenuity supports both the Credit Recovery Pathway during the school year and Summer School credit recovery courses.
What is Edgenuity?
Edgenuity offers an engaging and interactive online learning environment. Courses include:
- Animations, simulations, and video-led instruction
- Relevant websites and interactive activities
- Multiple ways for students to engage with content—seeing, hearing, and practicing
Courses are designed to meet the unique learning needs of each student, allowing lessons to be reviewed as many times as needed to achieve mastery.
