Congratulations on taking your educational experience to the college level! RCC’s “Early College” program allows for SMHS students to take RCC classes either on campus or online. With this opportunity comes certain responsibilities. Please take the time to read the following bullet points pertaining to student responsibilities associated with taking courses on the RCC Campus.
1. Counselor Recommendation/Approval required. The Early College program is for Juniors and Seniors. The process starts with a meeting with the student’s SMHS counselor.
2. Unless otherwise approved through Mr. Buttorff (Assistant Principal), all college credit earned can be transcripted (at student’s request) as elective credit for SMHS.
3. Students need to be aware of important dates and deadlines pertaining to dropping or withdrawing from RCC Courses. Failure to drop or withdraw will result in a failing grade on an RCC Transcript. An “F” on a college transcript could affect future financial aid.
4. Athletic Eligibility: If you sign up for RCC Courses as a part of your SMHS course load needed to maintain athletic eligibility and then drop that course, the student may lose academic eligibility. If the RCC course is a part of NCAA eligibility, make sure the class is approved.
5. Students may obtain a free RVTD bus pass to attend courses on the RCC Campus. South Medford High School does not pay for parking passes.
6. The Medford School District pays for the tuition/books/fees of each course and refunds from RCC are limited if at all. On rare occasions students may find it necessary to drop or withdraw from RCC courses, but students should be serious about wanting to start and finish courses and register with the intention to finish.
7. Students will be working with an RCC advisor when selecting Early College classes. While the PFC staff is knowledgeable regarding general college coursework, RCC is the expert as it pertains to class selection for specific college and transfer programs.
8. Students will be working independently with RCC and their systems. While the Panther Future Center is happy to give guidance, the Early College program is for students who can navigate RCC primarily on their own.
Please feel free to stop by the Panther Future Center if you have any questions!
